Terms of service

These terms of service apply to all of the Computing Society servers

Copyrighted material

Undistributable material (such as media that infringes copyright law) may not be transferred or stored.

Security

Upgrades related to system security are applied with little or no warning. Public discussion or exploitation of vulnerabilities prior to a resolution is strictly forbidden.
It is forbidden to allow other persons access to any server you may have access to without the explicit permission of the Exec.

Abuse of system resources

Excessive use of shared resources such as CPU and disk will not be tolerated.

Abuse of bandwidth

Excessive use of bandwidth is not tolerated. The Techteam highlights the Society’s valued relationship with IT Services and the desire to see this continue. In particular, use of any peer-to-peer technology is not acceptable.

Account suspensions

If the Techteam suspects a user of breaking the Terms of Service, suspension of the users account will occur prior to an investigation and with no advance warning.

Privacy

Members should not disclose other users data or information without explicit permission from the owner. This includes aggregating non-private data in an unsuitable manner.

Vulnerable software

Custom software must be kept up-to-date with respect to security updates, the Techteam will intervene if vulnerable software is found.

Free software

Software that meets the Debian Free Software Guidelines and is in the Debian “stable” repository is generally deemed preferable to alternatives. If any software has a suitable replacement which meets these criteria it may be replaced.

Other regulations

Users must abide by all rules and laws applicable via JANET, IT Services, the Student Union, the University of Warwick and UK law. Some potentially offensive material may thus be unsuitable for CompSoc servers.

Discretion

The Techteam reserves discretion on all matters relating to these points and the operation of the services.
